I've seen curling on the olympics recently and what is it?? l understand that they're trying to get the stone thingys on the target, but why do they move sticks in front of it? does that slow it down or something? and also why is it called ''curling''? how do you curl a rock? and why do they yell at it while they chase it? it is the strangest thing i've ever seen. l only watch b/c it is entertaining to see people yell at a rock in a foreign language.

l admit it is a pretty interesting and strange sport. They're actually brushing the ice to try to effect the stone travelling farther or slowing it down.

More on curling in the wikipedia article below.

First of all they r not waving sticks in front of the stone. The ''sticks'' r small brooms that r used to create a path for the stone to follow. If the right spin & speed is placed on the stone when it is released then the sweepers can control where the stone goes to some degree.

Second, the name ''Curling'' today comes from the way the sweepers get the stone to ''curl or turn, during game play. If the stone has the right amount of spin & the sweepers create a clean path, then a stone can gradually make a 90 degree turn to get around other stones on the ice.

Third, the players r not shouting at the stone. Assuming the players r shouting at the stone is the same fallacy of assuming the coach is shouting directions at the basketball in the middle of the game. What the players r shouting is directions to each other to help know where they r trying to guide the stone. It is called ''teamwork.''

Beyond that, Curling is a strategy sport similar to shuffleboard & bowling, but done on a team level & on ice.

curling is a sport and you basically throw stones which ever one is closest and how many stones you have on the rings and ice counts for points.
curling was based in Scotland and there are 10 ends.

It is generally agreed that curling was developed in Scotland in the 16th century. Scottish farmers curled on frozen marshes using ''channel stones,'' which were naturally smoothed by the water is action. The principles of the game were similar to the modern game, although there were many differences in rules and equipment.

But it sucks
