l cant seem to get my left blade stuck into the ice so l can move my right foot to the other side.

Bend your knees more deeply.get as low to the ice as you can. You kind of have to lean on the outer edge of your left blade to ''stick'' it into the ice

l used to Ice skate but l never had problems though you can aways try to slow down a bit and not hard but like stab it into the Ice so then you could probably switch to the other foot.

Ok u have to LEAN darling & make sure ur arms r in the right place. If you're going anti-clockwise around a circle put ur right hand infront of u at 12 o'clock & ur left hand at 6 o'clock.
Push with ur right foot from the ball of ur foot while concentrating ur weight on the left foot. Then when u come to cross ur right over ur left, bring that right foot infront to place on the inside (of ur circle) push slightly out with ur left foot to make room for the right. And place the right down where the left was.
Then start again. Your posture during the cross overs is gonna make or break it. Practice in a small circle (About 1.6 yards) & consciously lean ur body toward the centre of ur circle - this will make ur blade 'stick'. (p.s. check if ur blades r sharp enough too)

You're gonna look like a little bit of a dork the first few times till u get the hang of it, but once u get it, you're gonna look fab!
Also these skating skills r the most important to get right now, because they r the building blocks of all other skating elements.
