NO - It is the equivalent of brushing a frozen cow pat or a pizza base down your path when it is icy

It all depends on what definition you are using. As it is basically bowls on ice, then yes, it probably is a sport. Darts, on the other hand.

Yes.

'Curling is a precision team sport similar to bowls or bocce, played on a rectangular sheet of prepared ice by two teams of four players each, using heavy polished granite stones which they slide down the ice towards a target area called the house.'

The Canucks seem to think so but l too have my doubts.

Ask a Gold winning team , like Rhona and the rest of her curling team.

l think it is as much a sport as bowling is. And when you think about it what about horse racing or motor sports??? Are not the horses and cars doing all the work???
couzo     Reply with quote
no curling is not a sport

Those of you who say ''no'' have obviously never ''played'' the game and know nothing about that which they speak

Blah blah blah, If you do not have anything nice to say then do not say anything at all, did not your mothers ever tell you that?? As a curler l come to this forum to find valid and legitimate questions and to a sport that l enjoy very much. Obviously you people that have nothing good to say about this game, must lack something in your own lives!! Go find something that interests you and leave the snide remarks behind.

If Nascar is a sport, curling definitely is. Sitting on your ass in a car, driving in circles with only left turns while sweating your balls off does not constitute a sport. Any fat bastard with a smoke in one hand and a beer in the other can be a Nascar driver. Sorry for the rant. Yes, curling is a sport.

Yes. It requires strategy, skill & a surprising amount of physical control over ur body. l just started curling a few weeks ago & l am SORE! not just from slamming my knee on the ice, but from actually sweeping & throwing the stone. Yes, its true that curlers do not have to be in peak physical condition. If u use that argument to justify if something is a ''sport'' or not please explain to me how Curt Schilling, CC Sabathia & David Wells can be premier athletes of the great American pastime?

Dude, if u think that is bad, u should watch the last part of the Olympics. Did u know flag twirling is a sport? What about hoola hooping? What about playing with a ball? People never believe this -- it is like they've never watched the Olympics. But I've referenced a link that has pictures to prove it.

More deserving categories would be skateboarding, rugby, American football, flatulance & belching? l could think of infinite things more deserving than hoola hooping! l am not against hoola hooping as a sport. It is just that whatever logic determines twirling a flag to be a sport but skateboarding not to be (anybody ever watch the X-games?) is retarded? In fact, it appears this decision-making process may actually be a sport in the Special Olympics. How else could u explain the retardation of it all?

before you ask about curling you should ask about chess. Yes they are both sports. and to be honest if you dont know the rules or you arent playing they turn out to be the most boring sports ever
