What is the difference between Alpine skiing and Nordic skiing

Alpine is downhill.
Nordic is cross country.
They require different equipment.

Ok, let me elaborate on what the previous guy just said. Alpine is my area of expertise. It includes much of recreational skiing, when u go to a resort, get on a lift, & let gravity take u down the hill from the top. All types of ski racing, which includes slalom, GS, super-G & DH, (or slalom, giant slalom, super giant slalom, & downhill-- do u understand why we use abreviations? :)) r considered Alpine events. Nordic is cross country, which is classifyed by distance. Cross country skis & bindings r considerably different from Alpine skis.

Alpine skiing is downhill. Nordic is cross-country. You go Alpine skiing in the mountains, with chairlifts, and full foot bindings. Nordic is on the flat trails, up and down, and on lakes and rivers. Alpine is alot of fun if you are a social person, and you like speed and making turns. But l am kind of a hermit so l mostly go XCskiing on the river in the middle of the night when it is like 20below, and nobody is around. well, have fun whatever kind of skiing you do!

Nordic also entails ski jumping (not the faggy arials).
