Curling is a precision team sport similar to bowls or bocce, played on a rectangular sheet of prepared ice by two teams of four players each, using heavy polished granite stones which they slide down the ice towards a target area called the house. Points r scored for the number of stones that a team has closer to the center of the target than the closest of the other team is stones. The level of precision & complex nature of the strategic thinking required to win has led curling to be referred to as ''chess on ice.''

Curling is a precision sport similar to bowls or bocce, but played on ice with polished heavy stones rather than plastic balls. The game is generally believed to have been invented in 16th century Scotland, although two paintings by Pieter Brueghel the Elder depict Dutch peasants curling.

the word curling refers to the spin you put on your stone to make it follow a curved line, to allow it to slide around other stones.

When ever a curling rock is thrown is will always have a certain amount of curl to the stone, which means it will never stay perfectly straight from one side of the ice to the other. so the rocks are manipulated by putting spin on it, to make the path a little more pridictable.
