l would suggest the first criteria of your quest should be finding a place with snow.

A great palce would be New Zeland!!! Yeah they have a lot of cool moutains and snow.lol. Another place you could try would be Alaska somewhere in the Alaska Range. That is where Mt. McKinely is!

What time of year r u planning on going?

If it is summer, go south. Las Lenas Argentina is awesome & you'd do quite well there with $5000. South America is the experience of a lifetime. Everyone should try & get down there at least once in their life.

If it is gonna be next winter, l have to recommend Whistler. Not only r Whistler & Blackcomb two of the most amazing mountains in the world but the town of Whistler is very cool to hang out in. Tons of amazing shops, clubs, bars & resturants & the atmosphere is like no other. Again, u could have a great trip there for 5 grand.

Other options I'd recommend r Vail, Mammoth & Jackson Hole all totally awesome mountains but (with the exception of Vail) none of them even compare to Whistler.

Colorado has the best skiing. l live in steamboat and it is a great ski area. Most people perfer to go to the areas along I-70 closer to denver though like Vail and Brecenridge.

Big Mountain in Whitefish, Montana. Terrain Park is wicked, brand new half pipe, and the runs are screamin. Check it out: big-mountain.com

Romania, Fagaras Mountains, Balea Lake, there is a huge area still covered by 1-2 m thick snow, and there are a lot of youngsters practicing snowboard tricks! It is relatively cheap to get there if you want.
Ups, l do not know where do you live.
But. take a plane to Bucharest, then the train to Fagaras and there you will find minibuses or something to get up in the mountains. The surroundings are gorgeous, too.
