l just got back into skating and l wanted to learn a waltz jump. the best jump tht l can do now is a bunny hop. l have a friend who can easily show me, but l wanted to show her after l learn so she will wonder how l learned to do it since she has been teaching me all of the tricks tht l know. please tell me very easy steps tht l can do on my own on igure skates. thank you.

start out skating backward, lift up your left foot a little bit, raising it behind you,
Turn a little bit, followign your left shoulder and hop onto your left foot.
Take it slow, small, low foot work and keep practicing.
Or- if there are little girls skating around the rink that look like they know how, ASK them. They would think it was pretty cool to be able to teach someone older

it matters which foot u start off with. but l will just say right, from gliding backward pick up ur right foot but keep on gliding. after around four seconds make a t position with ur right foot in front and start gliding on ur right foot and pick up ur left foot (kick it into the air) and land on ur left foot. if u need any help on it u can email me meiraizkewl.com

to start from a standstill:
1. stand with u left foot infront of ur right foot forming a T & hold ur arms straight out in front of ur body
2. push with ur right left & allow the outside edge of ur let skate to move forward & push ur arms back & bend ur left leg .
3. lift ur right foot & jump up while u pull ur arms in. make suure both legs r straight in the air & make a half turn
4. land on the outside edge of ur right foot

to start with backwards crossovers:
1. skate backwards
2.glide backwards on ur right inoutside edge
3. step forwards on ur left outside edge & push ur arms back
4. follow steps 3 & 4 from the standstill position

its sorta hard to describe with out giving a demonstration
i would advise u to try the standstill method because it is much easier.

The easiest way to describe a waltz jump without a demonstration is that (if u r righ handed), glide forwards on ur left foot & hop to backwards (1/2 turn) landing on ur right foot. You can get more advanced starting backwards etc but to start just stand still & give a little push onto ur left foot. When turning make sure u turn counter clockwise. I've had kids that like to try to rotate the other way.let is just say it does not work too well!
If u think about ur bunny hop, u glide on ur left foot & kick ur right foot forward to jump. Well for the waltz jump u r going to kick that foot forward & turn at the same time. Good luck!!

l read other that people have put & l advise u not to do the first step that everyone has put. l have skated for about 10 years so l know what l am doing. The first time u try to do it u should be doing it by not skating backwards. The first step is to stand on the blue line on the ice. Make a T out of ur ice skate. put ur right foot all the way face right & u left facing forward put the heel of ur left foot right in the middle of ur right. Then u put ur arms together ur fist against ur chest. Then push ur left foot forward & push in a half cicrle to the left. Then once u have done this move on to jumping. Set up the same but instead of pushing jump up & turn to the left. The rule of jumping is up & out. so when u jump follow through with u right leg so have ur left foot planted & u right foot will lift up & then turn backwards. To do this ont he ground will help u develop muscle memory. Once u have That just practice pulling ur arms in tight & once u land on ur RIGHT foot exstend ur left to have a good clean ending. Remember when u jump to put ur left foot over ur right. Once u do good with that then u can try it by going backwards. And thats how u do it!! If u want to know how to do other things just ask some one who u can go & skate with. But lessons really will help!!

stand at a barrier with u right foot on the outside.. left foot near the barrier--- then holding on (but still standing still) swing u right leg back & pass it through.. hop up just like a bunny hop but turn backwards & land on the right foot (the foot u swung through..) u can use the barrier to get the idea of the motions down.. then try the blue line (or any line will do) & do the same thing.. (IF u Already know how to skate backwards u can try it form that after u mastered it slowly this way!!!!) best of luck.. e-mail me if u want iceskating0406.com
