l was at skating practice today and l was next to the boards next to my coach, and it was kinda busy because theres a test session this week and two girls were both doing backwards sprials towards each other and they didnt see each other till the last second, and one girl had her calf cut open and blood poured all over the ice and the cut went like down to her bone and she was just knocked out on the ice, l went to the hospital to see her and she was in surgury but they said she would be ok. And just last week a girl hit her head and got a concussion. Has anyway else seen or heard about something like this happeneing, if you have were they ok? and they say there is no such thing as a serious inury in skating. l know another girl who fractured her lower back from it

Wow is all l can say! WOW! That is terrible. My mouth just opened at the first line of that ''story''. Phew that is horrible. Wow l have no words to describe what l am feeling. l am a figure skater also. l never heard that ever happening to anyone l know or any figure skater really. Nothing like that ever happened to me. Sorry l do not know of any other injuries. Anyway l hope this information helps you. :-D

SCARY!

I've never heard of any thing that bad (the calf), but on my old syncro team one of the girls hands slipped off the others girls during a fast pinwheel & she went flying into the boards. It was pretty scary. She thought fast enough to put her shoulder up, but she ended up with whiplash & hurt her shoulder. A girl got toe-picked in the head too. Luckily it was not really hard, but its started bleeding. l dropped my skate on my semi-bare foot once ( l had thighs on). Thankfully l was taking them to get sharpened & they were pretty dull so l did not cut it that bad. l also got my hand stepped on by a skate. I've got some pretty bad stories about injures from skating. I've seen girls break bones, fracture things, & cut themselves or others.

OMG.thats horrible! l have not heard anything that bad. Only this girl that went to get on the ice and forgot to take her guards off, she slid and smacked her head on the door to get on the ice, she got a concusion.

Just becareful And ignore the whole blood and concusion thing. I've never seen such a thing.

Wow! Sounds like some coaches were not watching there own skaters. l am a mom of two figure skaters. At our club we have two ice monitors at all times. If you are worried about falling and getting a concussion, they do make those skating helmets. My girls refuse to wear them though. The only thing l can say, is just remember to always have good ice ethics. Remember where you are to practice what moves. But above all, have fun and sk8 grt!
