WHY DO THEY PLAY WITH TEA KETTLES AND BROOMS. and also, you are not considered an athlete if you play curling and it is an embarrassment to the winter olympics

you know, l did not think people who participated in curling were ''athletes'' until this past winter olympics. but l think it actually takes some strategy to plan what they hit. as far as the tea kettles go. well they are stones and the brooms are to smooth the ice so the stone will roll better.

l watched the Olympics & saw the work that went into playing. All l could say is l surely could not do any better to say the least, l would be the embarrassment! Its a beautiful game although l am not an avid fan but l am aware of work that must go into such an event. No l would never say that its not worth calling it a sport. It is & it will continue to flourish in the Olympics as long as people continue to play it! l hope, l sure do like watching it when the Olympics r on.

The tea kettles r 40 lbs of granite stone with handles on them.
-the brooms r used to smooth the ice down(called pebble) to make the rock glide farther.
-also used to keep the rock straighter because its natural progression is to curl.
- also used to keep debris out of the stones way so as not to alter the its path.
the athletisism required for this game depends on the level of curling that one wishes to play. At the olympic level, the players need cardio endurance, physical strength, mental endurance, & coordination. the sport takes many many years of practice, & hundreds of games to even come close to an olympic level. Try it u will see. it is not as easy as it looks

If chess players are athletes then curlers are athletes too.

The ''tea kettles'' r actually stones, normally made of granite. They weigh about 40 pounds, & it is far from simple to move them around on ice. You need a great deal of physical coordination & flexibility to make an effective shot.

The sweepers use brooms, & have to press down hard enough & fast enough to melt the ice in the path. During a throw they have to do this while staying close enough to the stone that the ice does not refreeze, but far enough away not to touch the stone. Try waxing a car while it is moving at about 5 miles an hour.

It also demands real strategy. Each shot has its own strategy & planning, not unlike a football coach is preparation.

l would not say that curlers have the same fitness as speed skaters or biathletes, but the game will wear u out if u do not have good endurance. If u do not have decent strength & flexibility, u wo not be able to play at all.

You're a disgruntled bobsledder!

It is always the ignorant and stupid who speak first and speak loudest.

Curling requires more athleticism than golf, but l do not hear you knocking that game. The skill it takes to throw a rock one hundred feet and have it stop within an inch of where you want takes more skill than the best curveball. And curling requires more endurance than football (the helmet and pads game).
