Ergonomics (or human factors) is the application of scientific information concerning humans to the design of objects, systems & environment for human use (definition adopted by the International Ergonomics Association in 2007). Ergonomics is the study of the interaction of a person with a machine. Information derived from Ergonomists contribute to the design & evaluation of tasks, jobs, products, environments & systems in order to make them compatible with the needs, abilities & limitations of people (IEA, 2000).

Ergonomics is defined as the science related to man and his work, embodying the anatomic, physiologic, and mechanical principles affecting the efficient use of human energy.
for example, Safe lifting techniques, proper posture, appropriate seating position, and adaptive equipment are only a few of the many examples of ergonomics in the workplace.
